Well, Hastings Pier has reopened, but little change yet, other than the owner, indeed, there's even less on the Pier now! The bar wasn't open, though the restaurant part of the Pavilion was open and serving food and drink (presumably not alcohol), the Deck building wasn't open, nor the cafe above, though yoga was happening on the Upper Deck, and that is about it really! ITV were interviewing people, so expect something on television this evening, including interviews with a spokesperson of Friends of Hastings Pier and, presumably, Mr Gulzar.
The Certificate of Employers Liability Insurance in the Pavilion is still in the name of Hastings Pier Charity so I have no idea if it's insured or not; sorry about the image, I couldn't get a good angle as a bit difficult to get near.
So far no one-armed bandits or games machines, Hut 6 is, apparently, their 'office' however no-one was there, and nothing painted 'gold' yet, though there were gold balloons, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the roof of the Pavilion painted gold soon, and maybe the railings, not a lot else to paint; watch this space!
Well you are very lucky to have this guy showing a keen interest in the welfare of piers. Nowt wrong with our pier in Eastbourne.
ReplyDeleteIf he wants to ban dogs and stop alcohol then he is well within his rights to do so.
I didn't know he doesn't allow alcohol on the Pier, I just thought they weren't ready yet with licence etc... oh well.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you can keep him in Eastbourne, thank you very much, we had a great business plan here in Hastings, as a representative of Friends of Hastings Pier recently wrote elsewhere:
" there is a common misconception - .. the HPC ran the pier and put it into administration ..... a totally different group from that the FOHP had less than six months to raise the money and put in a bid to purchase the pier with cash reserves of £750,000, and a very strong transition plan to keep the pier running ... Plus a five-year business plan which contained new buildings designed by dRMM - the award-winning architects ... and content and an entertainment programme designed by myself - who's company successfully turned both Cromer and Bournemouth piers from loss to profit.
The administrators chose Mr. Gulzar's plans over the FOHP, but both plans would have "saved the pier" ... only one of those two plans would have kept it in public ownership."
I support the FOHP plan, but we may have to wait a while whilst Gulzar loses money each month... ;-)
Although it’s now been shut there was a club serving alcohol on Eastbourne piers and a still open function room above that night club that serves alcohol. Wish people would get their facts right
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Amanda, there are so many people who have made comments about the Pier for the last couple of years, and even more so recently, who lack correct information... But I'm inclined to think that Neil's comment is a bit of a wind up, the man likes money, consequently, he'll be selling alcohol in bars and the restaurant, simples...
