A much quieter weekend to come...

Well, it'll be a much quieter weekend than of late, though the fireworks last Saturday could have been much more impressive, as weather conditions meant that some of the more spectacular fireworks available couldn't be set off, oh dear... The trains should be back to their usual self, as in, just unreliable rather than rare, and the regular attractions remain, of course, eg museums, parks, castle, aquarium, etc etc... and music et al in pubs like the Dolphin Inn, for example, Friday and Saturday evenings, and the Pier:

From the Pier you can fish all weekend, with the required bookings, of course, all day plus night fishing tonight (Friday) and Saturday; see my earlier blog regarding more complete details. In addition, the Pier is hosting exhibitions and family science workshops over the weekend, see their website.

What a Weekend on the Pier!

Well, I had to write about Hastings Pier individually this week, in addition to my usual weekend fun blog (I'll publish that either later today or in the morning), as much to do on and from there, including, from tonight for a week (19th to the 26th of August), the much demanded Night Fishing on Hastings Pier! This will be from 9pm until 8am, and is being organised by Paul's Tackle, from where you can purchase tickets; for more information either visit the website, or call (01424 433404) or visit the shop, Paul's Tackle, on the seafront immediately on the right when coming out of Robertson Street.

OK, and, of course, there is plenty more of the usual to do, including promenading, eating, drinking, shopping, playing on the children's funfair rides etc, researching the history of the Pier, enjoying a Science on Sea Family Workshop with Blast Science on Sunday from 11am, and, oh yes, Zippos Festival Circus is here until the 29th of August!

Let's hope the weather isn't too bad!

Carnival Ends with a Bang!

The fireworks last night were quite impressive, always good to enjoy their majesty! There's still plenty of Carnival events to enjoy today, including numerous walks and exhibitions Garden Parties (see website). And don't forget the postponed Jimmy Read Memorial Bike Ride is set for this evening up Crown Lane!

More fun in Hastings this weekend!

This weekend, Stade Saturdays presents, from 7.30pm on the Stade open space (23rd July), 40 Mayotte dancers from the Mayotte archipelago in the Indian Ocean, collaborating with Ghanaian Afla Sackey and his band, Afrik Bawantu (website).

Dolphin Inn

Plenty of free music in pubs too, including Beatwave at the Albion in George Street, a "weekend of Surf, Beat and Garage Frenzy by the Sea", starting this Friday evening, 22nd and going onto Sunday (facebook page), and not to mention world famous jazz musician, yet very local, Liane Carroll, Roger Carey, and everyone's favourite drummer Russell Field, on at the Dolphin Inn, Rock-a-Nore Road, this Saturday evening from 9pm!

There is also plenty to do at the Pier this weekend, with, in addition to the usual facilities and funfair, the returning Chill at the Pier DJ Slot, with Daniel Martin and Dan Willett, in the Pavilion Restaurant and Bar from 3pm on Saturday 23rd, and on Sunday, there are more Science on Sea Family Workshops with Blast Science from 11am, and the Oresome Community Choir are performing from 11am (website).

So, do enjoy the weekend, plenty more to do of course, with, in the old town, the Blue Reef Aquarium and Fishermen's Museum, Hastings Castle and Smugglers Experience up on the West Hill, shops and markets all over the place, and, of course, the seafront!

Plenty to do this weekend!

There is plenty happening in Hastings this weekend, including...

Hastings Winkle Club's free JazzFest, a "weekend of Jazz & Bluesy Soul! Saturday sees Stade Saturday Do Jazz on the Stade Open Space, with Trevor Watts and Veryan Weston performing between 7.30pm and 9.30pm; in addition, there are acts at pubs and bars around the old town, including The Albion, The Anchor, The Dragon Bar, Porters Wine Bar and The Jenny Lind. 

On Sunday (5th) there is a free concert on the Stade Open Space from 2pm to 7pm, gates open at 1pm, and I believe there will be a bar, and acts include The Jane Reeves Jazz Trio, The Violet Jive, The Mike Hatchard Quartet, and Tony O'Malley. Associated music also at The Crown, Porters Wine Bar, The Jenny Lind, and The Albion, and, of course, there will be music at other venues both days too, eg at the Dolphin Inn on Friday and Saturday evenings. This weekend also sees the 8th Hastings Town & Country Fair at Alexandra Park, 10am to 5pm both days, with fun for all the family, including birds of prey, children's entertainment, arts & crafts, gifts and food marquees, and the Companion Dog Show 2016 (see website) on Sunday, with all proceeds going to Marie Curie Cancer Care (go to their website for further information).

It's well over a year ago now since I first reported about the weekly 5km Park Run, and this Saturday 4th June will see the 60th Park Run in Hastings, which is held at 09.00 every Saturday (see website). With decent weather expect over 150 runners, maybe not so many this weekend though, what with all the other events happening? Entry is free, but it is preferred that you register beforehand.  

There is no Stade Walk organised from the Fishermen's Museum this week, the next Stade Walk will be on Saturday 25th June, held in conjunction with the Midsummer Fish Festival. Though, of course, a visit to the Museum is always a pleasure; see the Old Hastings Preservation Society website for more information. 

The 'Green' events continue at the Blue Reef Aquarium , down towards the end of Rock-a-Nore Road, this weekend, notably with World Environment Day on Sunday 5th June, as described more fully in a recent blog from last weekend. 

And, of course, the Pier is open, I hardly need to remind you! This weekend, all previously reported events are happening, with the funfair, bars, cafes, fish & chips, Memories Room, The Deck, Shop, gifts etc, and also The Science on Sea Workshops with Blast Science (see website); free 'family friendly' science workshops with experiments and audience participation, and a workshop where you can make something to take home!
