Town Centre, Couple of News Items.

Many times I've written about the ongoing building of the hotel in Cornwallis Street (eg blog), see image at bottom, well, the road is vlosed off from the South Terrace end, which I imagine hasn't made Pissarro's too happy, but the entrance from St Andrews Square has been opened for visitors to the garage back there, but no parking room available for anyone else, oh well, and...

I meant to wrote about this last week too (apologies for delay), but Greggs in Queens Road has moved. I saw it was closed in the early morning, but walked by again in the early evening and took this photograph, it has enlarged slughtly to 2/4 doors back down Queens Road!

Driving in Hastings Ain't Easy!

The town centre itself has seen numerous roads blocked, notably Queens Road (eg blog), including utility companies blocking the road, Police too, work on the traffice lights by Marks & Spencer, and trucks, including trucks with multiple trailers, backing out of Cornwallis Street into Queens Road because they thought they'd found an easy route through, notably to the building of the hotel (blog) on the other side of St Andrews Square, in that end of Cornwallis Street!

Of course there are roadworks all around Hastings too, including in St Margarets Road (above), and I don't have a car at present, but friends have regularly shared their nightmare travels around Hastings! Whatever check up before travelling (Hastings Online), and stay safe folks!

Immigration Enforcement in Hastings, just now!

A 'sweeping' turn up in Queens Road, a short while ago, of staff from the Home Office Immigration Enforcement branch, which was set up on the 1st of April 2012 (website), although this obviously was not a joke!

Queens Road closed on Sunday 15th

Notice for drivers et al, Queens Road is closed for road repairs on Sunday, planned from 06.00 to 17.00, fingers crossed...

Another Hastings Micropub! - Twelve Hundred Postcards

Hastings newest micropub very recently opened at 80 Queens Road TN34 1RL (opposite Morrisons petrol station), so I had to visit, obviously...

... and very happy I was too when I got there (above), well I was already quite happy, but pleased with how Twelve Hundred Postcards is shaping (the story behind the name is described in great detail on their website, so I suggest you have a look there if you want to know more), and I got to meet up with a couple of friends there I hadn't seen for quite some time too, nice one! 

On entering I was impressed with the bright decor, and how far back the bar room goes, consequently providing plenty of seating (I calculate room for 30-40 seated, and plenty of room for standing), as you can see from the photograph above.

The man in charge using modern technology to aid his efficiency, and the cooled beer storage area behind him, pretty much an enormous fridge that you can see into.

Obviously I'm most interested in the cask ales on sale, so I shall go into the ales first: 4 cask conditioned ales available (above, what was available yesterday evening 3rd November, but no regulars, I believe, so these will regularly change as they run out, and I also believe there are ales to come very soon from quality local brewers Franklins - website - and from Burning Sky - website). I have to admit yesterday included 2 of my favourite ales available, from Peterborough brewers Oakham Ales (website), their excellent 4.2% Citra, and from Derbyshire brewers Thornbridge (website), their stronger, and also excellent 5.9% Jaipur, quality!

So what else is available? In addition to the ales there are 3 ciders available and a crafty keg beer, plus numerous bottles and cans in a fridge behind me when I took this photograph, including some Belgian beers, 2 red and 2 white wines, and a variety of crisps to snack on. As I said above, Twelve Hundred Postcards is bright, clean and roomy, to which I can add, very friendly too, so well worth a visit, or many visits for that matter, cheers! Oh yes, opening times:

Fire in Queens Road.

Smoke alerted me to a fire in a flat in Queens Road 30-40 minutes ago, 4 or 5 fire appliances turned up very quickly, police, ambulance and paramedics too. 

I spoke to one of the fire officers present, who assured me people were safe, no worries, all was in order; and the emergency vehicles are gradually departing now. 

Thank goodness for our emergency services, I'll be thinking of them on the 8th June, when I put my cross on the ballot paper, indeed!

At last, pizza for one!

This isn't an advertisement, but an observation of mine, quite frankly, for single people, or those in relationships where only one of the couple, or family, likes a pizza every now and then. For years, all the larger pizza companies have deals for 2 pizzas, for example, or just charge a stupid amount for one pizza, well now your luck is in in Hastings! 

I only recently discovered Oregano Leaf in Queens Road, which has some of the same sort of deals as other 'pizzerias', but also, if you collect the pizza yourself, a reduced price of £5 for any of their 10" pizzas, £7 for 13" and £8 for 15" pizzas, and I've had quite a few since discovery, and they're cooked in a wood burning oven (above), and they ain't bad!

Burglar in Town Hall!

Following a break in at Hastings Town Hall, Queens Roads, where £300 of our local taxpayers money was stolen, at around 6.45pm on Monday evening (4th July), Sussex police are seeking witnesses, the male burglar, in his forties, left the building through the main front doors; see the Sussex Police website for further information. 

Hastings Registry Office has moved!

Today I discovered that, no doubt due to cuts, from this week, the Registry Office has moved into the Town Hall in Queens Road (website), consequently, marriages will now be held in the Mayor's Parlour or Council Chamber...

So now we have a nomadic Hastings Borough Council, and meetings will be held in various places, as you can see, on the 1st of February, the Cabinet meeting will be held at the Stade Hall, and the following Environment & Safety Committee meeting will be held at Aquila House on the 4th of February. If you want to attend any meetings, be aware!
