Old Town Guided Walk

Tomorrow afternoon (16th July) sees the continuation of the regular Tuesday Old Hastings Preservation Society (OHPS) free guided walk of Hastings Old Town (website). If you wish to take part, and it is well worth it, meet up by the top of the West Hill Lift (lower entrance at the west end of George Street) by 2.30pm. An OHPS volunteer will guide your exploration of the historic buildings of the old town, the twittens and the cat creeps, and tell you why 'celebrities of their day flocked to Hastings' and, indeed, why many still do!

The walk proceeds gently downhill, with some steps, and lasts about 2 hours. It is provided free of charge, though the OHPS would be grateful for any donations made, many thanks. Wearing comfortable walking shoes is sensible, and the weather forecast is for a sunny day, so please be prepared, particularly, if like me, you catch the sun quickly, hat and/or Factor 50 may well be appropriate, and enjoy yourselves!

Tuesday's Old Town Walk + Lifeboat Quiz Night...

This afternoon the Old Hastings Preservation Society (OHPS) will be leading their regular Tuesday afternoon free guided walk of Hastings Old Town, which will be meeting by the top of the West Hill Lift at 2.30pm. You will be shown around the old town, with its historic buildings, twittens, and plentiful stories, by a volunteer guide from the OHPS, who will also explain the huge number of talented celebrities of their age who have visited and/or lived here, and still do, eg a number of the Pre-Raphaelites in the 19th century (blog).

The walk proceeds across the West Hill and gently downhill into Hastings Old Town, with a number of steps included, and lasts about 2 hours. This guided walk is free of charge, though the OHPS, a registered charity, would be very grateful for all donations made, many thanks (website). You are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes, and the weather is forecast to be sunny all day (Met Office), so Factor 50 and/or head covering may well be required. Have a good afternoon!

Later on, this evening, starting at 7.30pm, there will be a Quiz Night at East Hastings Sea Angling Association by the Stade in aid of Hastings Lifeboat (facebook page). There will be a maximum of 4 people allowed per team, at a cost of £2.50 per person, with complimentary nibbles provided, good luck if you enter!

Hastings Old Town Guided Walk this afternoon

The weekly Old Hastings Preservation Society (OHPS) Tuesday afternoon guided walk of Hastings Old Town, ie of the "premier ancient Cinque Port," meets up by the top of the West Hill lift at 2.30pm this afternoon. There is a wealth of historic buildings, twittens and cat-creeps to explore in the old town, and the volunteer guide will explain why celebrities of their day (for example, the Pre-Raphaelites in the 19th century, see older blog) have, and still do, flock to Hastings.

The walk will proceed gently downhill, including a number of steps, and lasts about 2 hours. The guided walk is provided free of charge, although the OHPS (charity) would be grateful for all donations given, many thanks; see their websiteIt's worth wearing comfortable walking shoes, obviously, and the forecast suggests it will be bright and sunny again today (Met Office), indeed blue skies for a week (! fingers crossed!) so be prepared with some Factor 50 applied, or with a hat/head covering if, like me, you redden as soon as the sun casts its rays at you!

Enjoy your day!

The first Old Hastings Preservation Society (OHPS) 2018 Tuesday afternoon guided walk of Hastings Old Town was last week, oops, apologies for missing it! The walk will proceed gently downhill, including a number of steps to manage, and lasts about 2 hours. The guided walk is provided free of charge, though the OHPS would be grateful for all donations given, many thanks; see their websiteIt's worth wearing comfortable walking shoes, obviously, and the forecast suggests it will be bright and sunny again today, so be prepared with Factor 50 or hat/head covering if, like me, you redden as soon as the sun casts its rays on you!

Do enjoy the afternoon.

And remember to wear at least a shower-proof jacket as light rain is forecast, and I'd suggest you wear comfortable walking shoes too, enjoy the day!

I noticed on their facebook page that both Hastings lifeboats will be launched on their fortnightly exercise tomorrow evening, Wednesday 31st May, 6pm to 8pm (though subject to operations). They recommend the harbour arm for the best view; for more details about the RNLI Hastings Lifeboat go to their website, or facebook or twitter accounts.

St Mary's Restaurant + Walk.

Well, I've been waiting for the new management of St Mary's Restaurant, below St Mary in the Castle, to reopen the restaurant/cafe, but not a lot appears to be happening. I had a chat with someone in the know, and we'll have a little longer to wait, some technical problem apparently...

Oh, and don't forget the free guided 'old town' walk that starts up at the top of the West Hill Lift at 2.30pm this afternoon; see the Old Hastings Preservation Society website for more details of this, and of their Stade guided walks.
