Hastings Old Town and Stade Guided Walks Cancelled...

Unsurprisingly, the Old Hastings Preservation Society free guided walks of the Old Town, due to begin today, have been cancelled until further notice (website), understandable in the circumstances. I only noticed a few minutes ago, and, of course, the Stade walks, due to have started for this year at Easter, are also cancelled.

Keep safe folks, let's hope this is over soon.

Old Town Guided Walk

Tomorrow afternoon (23rd July) sees the regular Tuesday Old Hastings Preservation Society (OHPS) free guided walk of Hastings Old Town (website). If you wish to take part, and it is well worth it, meet up by the top of the West Hill Lift by 2.30 pm (lower entrance at the west end of George Street). An OHPS volunteer will guide your exploration of the historic buildings of the old town, walking the twittens and cat creeps, and tell you why celebrities of their day flocked to Hastings, and many still do!

The walk proceeds gently downhill, with some steps, and lasts about 2 hours. It is provided free of charge, although the OHPS would be grateful for any donations made, many thanks. Wearing comfortable walking shoes is sensible, of course, and the weather forecast is for a sunny day tomorrow, so please be prepared, particularly, if like me, you catch the sun quickly, so a hat and/or Factor 50 applied may well be appropriate, and do enjoy yourselves!

Last TUESDAY Afternoon Guided Old Town Walk for 2018

This afternoon sees the last of the 2018 regular Tuesday afternoon Old Hastings Preservation Society's (OHPS) free guided walks of Hastings Old Town, although there are still two to come on Saturday 15th of September and Sunday 14th of October 2018! If you wish to follow the walk this afternoon, you need to meet up by the top of the West Hill Lift for 2.30pm. A volunteer guide from the OHPS will show you around the old town, with its historic buildings, twittens, and its many stories, and will tell you about the wealth of talented celebrities of their age who have visited and/or lived here, for example, watercolour artists in the early 19th century, including J.M.W. Turner (blog), indeed, the celebrities keep on arriving in the early 21st century!

The walk will proceed across the West Hill and lead gently downhill into the old town with a number of steps involved, and will last about 2 hours. The OHPS provides for this guided walk free of charge, though as it is a registered charity, they would be very grateful for all donations made, many thanks (website). You are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes, and the weather is forecast to be cloudy, so don't be surprised if there is some light rain (Met Office). Whatever, enjoy the afternoon!

I'm a bit challenged for a couple of weeks with an IT issue, so my blogs will be dependent on when I can get to the revamped Hastings Library (great IT service, see blog). Anyway, tomorrow again will  be blessed by the Old Hastings Preservation Society's (OHPS) regular Tuesday afternoon free guided walk of Hastings Old Town. If you wish to partake in this walk meet up by the top of the West Hill Lift at 2.30pm. You are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes, and the weather is forecast to be nice again (Met Office), so Factor 50 and/or head covering may be wise, certainly if you're fair-skinned like me!

Enjoy your day!

Organised by the Old Hastings Preservation Society (OHPS), this afternoon's free guided walk of Hastings Old Town meets up by the top of the West Hill Lift at 2.30pm. This is arranged for Tuesday every week until the middle of September, with an extra one here and there during the year. OHPS Old Town Guided Walk this afternoon.

The last Old Hastings Preservation Society (OHPS) 2017 Tuesday guided walk of Hastings Old Town, the "premier ancient Cinque Port," meets up by the top of the West Hill lift at 2.30pm; though please note there are still two similar walks planned for Saturdays 5th September and 14th October. There is a wealth of historic buildings, twittens and cat-creeps to explore in the old town, and the volunteer guide will explain why celebrities of their day have, and still do, flock to Hastings. The walk will proceed gently downhill, but be careful, because there are a number of steps to manage too. The walk lasts about 2 hours and is provided free of charge, though the OHPS would be grateful for all donations given, many thanks; see their website.

It's worth wearing comfortable walking shoes, obviously, and the forecast suggests it will probably be dry and bright, but there may be showers before and after the walk, so do be suitably prepared!

Enjoy the afternoon!

Monday, 7 August 2017

It's a wee bit quieter this week, I'm taking a breath now, but tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday 8th August, feel free to join the Old Hastings Preservation Society (OHPS) for their regular Tuesday walking tour of Hastings Old Town, the "premier ancient Cinque Port." Meet up at 2.30pm by the top of the West Hill lift. The old town has a wealth of historic buildings, twittens and cat-creeps to explore, and you will find out why celebrities of their day, eg the Pre-Raphaelites, flocked to Hastings, indeed, contemporary celebrities still do! A volunteer guide will be leading the walk, which proceeds gently downhill, but, be careful, as there are steps to manage here and there. The walk lasts about 2 hours and is provided free, but the OHPS would be very grateful for all donations given, many thanks, see their website.

It's worth wearing comfortable walking shoes and, as the forecast suggests light rain for most of the day, at least shower-proof clothing/brolly may well be sensible...

Enjoy the afternoon!

Tuesday, 13 June 2017

There is a wealth of historic buildings, twittens and cat-creeps to see around the town, and find out why the celebrities of their day did, and still do, flock to Hastings! A volunteer guide will lead the walk, which proceeds gently downhill, but there are steps to manage too. I noticed on their facebook page that both Hastings lifeboats will be launched on their fortnightly exercise tomorrow evening, Wednesday 31st May, 6pm to 8pm (though subject to operations). They recommend the harbour arm for the best view; for more details about the RNLI Hastings Lifeboat go to their website, or facebook or twitter accounts.
