Congratulations to the FILO Brewing Company!

By Steve the Beermeister:

A little birdy told me that Gold, the 4.8% pale 'premium ale' brewed by the FILO Brewing Company (website) has won the South East Sussex Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) 2017 Beer of the Year prize! Nice one, so...

I had to visit the 'brewery tap' and try a wee drop of the Gold there, That is, at the First In Last Out (FILO), so you may well have seen me drinking in there, or walking up/down the High Street in the old town yesterday afternoon, and, yes, it was very fine indeed, a well balanced pale golden ale, not too bitter, so meeting the needs of many drinkers, cheers!

Running down people in the High Street!

I only found out earlier today that a very well-known local older man was very nearly run over in the High Street on Saturday evening! He now has a very pronounced black eye due to his avoidance tactics, thank God he dodged the offending vehicle... he has since visited his GP with his eye, and also because he has badly damaged his right arm...

This is a man who doesn't want to make a fuss, God bless him, but, sooner or later, someone will be very seriously injured, maybe killed, in the High Street! Ostensibly, it is a 20 MPH speed limit, but, the young man who nearly hit this very well know local with his car, was driving well over 20 MPH and drove up onto the pavement! He didn't even stop to make sure the victim was OK!

I wrote over a year ago that Sussex Police weren't even threatening to prosecute people breaking the speed limit in Hastings (blog), but something needs to happen urgently! First, the Police have to ensure drivers obey the law, second, "Sleeping Policemen", at least, have to be introduced to the High Street, because I never want to have to report that a local person has been killed here...

Future of Old Town Hall Public Meeting

Old Town Hall

The Old Town Hall/Museum has been closed for some time now and, despite a short usage recently by the Hastings International Piano Concerto organisers, the building still awaits a planned purpose!

History House

Well, something could be happening soon, indeed, this evening, Monday the 14th of March, there is to be held a meeting, 6pm for 6.30, at the History House in Courthouse Street, to discuss possible alternatives for the use of this wonderful old building in the High Street; a chance to put forward your views and to hear other's ideas too.

Safer to walk up the High Street now!

I had a wander yesterday, too much travelling the day before, so needed to stretch my legs, and saw that the High Street is open again, back to normal-ish, except the new pavement, of course! There are still roadworks below this, but traffic appears to be moving freely. It'll be interesting to see if fewer people walk in the road now!

High Street continued...

As you can see, the High Street has a new pavement! Still more work to come, so roadworks to continue, hopefully they'll tidy up the pavement opposite...

OOPS! Nearly run over in High Street, Old Town!

I had no idea! I gently meandered into the High Street from Courthouse Street, and found a car going the wrong way, downhill... but it wasn't! The High Street is cut off from the bottom, work going on, apparently, for a couple of months. So, be careful to check which way the traffic is moving when in the vicinity, be more careful than I was!
