H.O.T. Carnival still on, ignore misinformation!
I say 'ignore misinformation' because a friend missed the Pram Race because he was told it had been cancelled! Poor him, and he was all ready to go too; I won't say where he was drinking that had customers full of this rubbish, I've heard too much this week. Events ARE going ahead, including today (Thursday 8th), between 5.30 and 6.30pm, the Donut Eating Competition at Butlers Gap in George Street, eat all you can in a muinute (website); try not to throw up! Also, from 6.00 to 8.00pm, at Hastings Adventure Golf course, the Winkle Club Crazy Golf competition (website). For events today go to the website. For events tomorrow (Friday 9th) go to the website, including the Gurning Competition 6.00 to 6.30pm at Butlers Gap (website).

Light Up Dog Walk on Sunday 27th
Tomorrow evening (Sunday 27th January 2019) there will be another Hastings Dress Up Dog Walk with a Punk Themed Light Up Dog Walk! Congregating from 5pm in front of Hastings Pier (obviously not on it! Previous blog) and planned to be over by 7pm, the walk will head eastwards along the seafront, then down Robertson Street and head towards the old town and Butlers Gap in George Street (facebook event page). Obviously dressing up as a Punk, and lighting up, will be the order of the day, and any money raised will be in aid of Tesa's Rescue (facebook page).

Memorial and snow...
I just walked back from the old town, I took this photograph of the excellent memorial to Ron Everett (Popeye - blog) in Butlers Gap, George Street, and it's already snowing, but very light, expecting more tomorrow...

Popeye Memorial in Butlers Gap.
Photograph thanks to Sid Saunders
A memorial to local character Popeye (Ron Everett) was unveiled yesterday by his daughter Lindy, and Judy Rogers, Mayor of Hastings, in Butlers Gap, George Street. The memorial was created by local sculptor Leigh Dyer, who hid upstairs, a wee bit shy, and is a wonderful recreation in metal of Popeye's cap, who's sad death was noted last year (blog). You can see more of the unveiling on youtube.

Hastings Foodbank
Today, between 10.30am and 1pm, 2 of our councillors (councillors Poole and Bacon) have organised a Hastings Foodbank (website) collection in the Old Town. All donations would be very much appreciated and can be left at Butlers Gap (George Street, Hastings Old Town) during these times, many thanks.

Pirate Day 2016
As current holders, we shan't be going for the record of most pirates on the beach this year, however, this Sunday is Pirate Day, with much better weather forecast this year, and it is 'officially' organised this time, with associated events from the Pier to Rock-a-Nore, including a procession between Hastings Pier and the Stade Open Space (website), indeed, at Priory Meadow, Saturday and Sunday, there will be children's workshops, a treasure hunt, face painting and goody bags, though, probably not for adults!
On Hastings Pier there will be organised various associated events from 10-10.30 on Sunday (website), and there's more fun all over Hastings, at Pelham Beach, in the town centre, at Butler's Gap, the Stade, White Rock Theatre, and I'm sure most public houses will have music, not to mention grog and other beverages available...
More swashbuckling fun will be had up at Hastings Castle and the Smugglers Adventure on the West Hill, and down at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Rock-a-Nore Road, with pirate workshops, flag designing classes, and much more fun (website), indeed fun for all the family, enjoy the weekend!

Thursday 6th, another Carnival Day to enjoy!
Today's plans can be seen at the website, though it does say the Street Party is cancelled, sadly, however, things are happening, in addition to what is advertised on the site...
It appears that Jonathan M will be accepting wet sponges in the face at Butlers Gap from 5pm, and there are a number of choirs singing at the same site from 5.30pm for a few hours. There is definitely music in the Jenny Lind and the Wellington this evening, and the weekly 'charity' quiz will be held in in the Dolphin Inn from 8.30pm. Probably a lot more spontaneous stuff too, so turn up and enjoy!
Here are some Pram Race photographs from last night, cheers!
The road is closed, and teams are starting to arrive...
The 3 leading teams start to arrive at the Dolphin (close to the finish, for those unfamiliar with the race; 18 pubs/bars in all).
The third team arrive, but have had enough, they won't finish third!
People aren't rushing now...

And one for on my way home...
