Register to Vote: 30 hours left!

A final reminder that you don't need to take your poll card with you to the polling station when you vote on the 4th of July, when you help decide who wins at the General Election. However, you do need to take photo ID . If you turn up at the polling station without photo ID, you will not be allowed to vote, so get it now if you don't already have an acceptable method of ID, and don't want to lose your right to vote.

Acceptable photo ID includes an original (not photocopied) Passport, Driving Licence, Older or Disabled Persons' Bus Pass, Freedom Pass, other Concessionary Travel Cards and SmartPasses, PASS Card, and EEA ID cards. For full details of acceptable photo ID go to the Electoral Commission website.

If you don't have any photo ID that qualifies, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificateproviding you are on the Electoral Register, at the Government website.

If you want your name to be added to the Electoral Register, go to the Government website, where you can register online, or, again, lose the right to vote. You have until 11.59pm on the 18th of June 2024 to register, but I would suggest registering as soon as possible, remember, this is the big election to decide who will run the country for the next 5 years!

The policy regarding photo ID was introduced last year, if you want further details, and of how it went for elections last year and by-elections, go to this Parliamentary Research Briefing.

For further details go to the Electoral Commission website. 👍

Don't lose your right to vote and don't forget people lost their lives fighting for your rights!

As I've said before, 2 elections in one year, what a waste of taxpayers' money! The Government should have had the General Election on the same day as the local elections, thus just have the one day's costs and not twice in one year. Also, it would have been interesting to see the results of local councils with a larger turnout than usual, oh well, Democracy...😒

Don't Forget, Photo ID required for Coming Elections!

Thanks to the habitual liar, ex-PM and lawbreaker Johnson, you now need photo ID if you want to vote at the local elections, and for Police & Crime Commissioner, on the 2nd of May 2024, and whenever the General Election is held. If you turn up at the polling booth without photo ID, you won't be allowed to vote, so get it now if you don't already have an acceptable method of ID, and don't want to lose your right to vote.

Elections Looming...

Less than 2 months away, on Thursday the 6th of May 2021 to be exact, there will be Local Elections for Hastings Borough Council, East Sussex County Council and for the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner, including for those Hastings ward elections postponed last year (HBC website).

If you are not already on the Electoral Register, you can register online at the Government website.  Registering online only takes about 5 minutes, and remember, if you are not on the register you cannot vote, and you may be fined!*

The website also gives advice about registering, how you may complete a paper form, and I suggest, if you don't want everyone in the world to be able to see your details, you make sure you are not on the Open Register, my free advice, I thank you!

*Explained in older blog.

And, you have until before midnight tomorrow (11.59pm/23.59 hours, or if you want a postal vote, it needs to be before 5pm/17.00 hours), Tuesday the 26th of November, to register (Government website). Registering online "usually takes about 5 minutes" only, and remember, if you are not on the register you cannot vote, and you may be fined!*

If you want/need to register to vote please do hurry to the website and register.

General Election!

I said there was a General Election coming soon (blog), as have most pundits of course, if not on the Electoral Register you need to hurry to here.

12th of December 2019 (BBC).

On the Electoral Register?

Unless you've been hiding in Iceland or somewhere you are probably well aware that a General Election in December is a very real possibility! So, if you are not already on the Electoral Register have a look at the Hastings Borough Council website for advice, or just go straight to the Government website and register online, if you're not on the Electoral Register, you can't vote, and you could be fined!

We don't appear to be having local elections in Hastings this year (Hastings Borough Council website), but elections for the European Parliament are starting to look like a distinct possibility now (BBC)! If you are not already on the Register to vote, it only takes a short while to register online at the Government website. Don't lose it!

If you are not already on the register, now may be a great time to remedy that situation, who knows when the next general election may be (forget about the 5 years, that's only been stuck to the once so far, in 2015!), and there are local elections most years, so go to the Government website and please register...

You know it makes sense 😉

One day left to register to vote!

Hastings Town Hall

Tomorrow is the last day you can register to be able to vote at the local elections on the 3rd of May (see my recent blog); register at government website.

Don't lose your chance to vote if you aren't already registered!

May 3rd Election: and Register to Vote!

You've likely already received your Poll Card for the local elections on Thursday the 3rd of May 2018, if not, are you registered to vote? If not, you still have a little over a week in which to register to vote at the local elections, indeed, there would be no surprise if a general election is called at short notice any time soon! Whoever you support, it is important to use your vote, or even to turn up and 'spoil' your ballot paper if you would prefer, but everyone really does need to make their feelings felt.

In Hastings every Borough Councillor seat is up for grabs for the first time on the same day, due to the boundary changes, and what one shouldn't forget, whatever your political persuasion, is that Central Government has once again reduced the amount they share with Local Government, and Hastings is one of the worst hit councils in the country! But it's not just Labour borough councils that have been hit, even Tory controlled county councils (and local councils), including East Sussex County Council, have had their contributions slashed since 2010, indeed many Conservative councillors are among the noisiest in their condemnation of Central Government ongoing cuts to funding whilst passing more responsibilities onto local councils...

Register to vote here, you have until the 17th of April 2018, make your opinions known to your local MP, County Councillors and Hastings Borough Councillors, and vote!

Been walking myself, but remember to register!

We were out walking in the Chilterns yesterday, so I missed whatever weather was in Hastings, but we certainly got some weather ourselves, a wee bit damp at times!

Anyway, you've a few hours over a day in which to register to vote, if you haven't already; go to the Government website to register by 23.59 hours, 22/05/17.

Friday, 19 May 2017

Just a few days to go...

If you haven't received one of these polling cards yet, providing the appropriate polling station for where you live, you probably aren't registered to vote... You have until 23.59 hours on Monday 22nd May 2017, just a few days now, to register if you want to vote in the general election on the 8th June 2017; go to the government website.

Sussex Wildlife Trust, Our Environment & Your Vote!

Filsham Reedbed (Sussex Wildlife Trust)

The decisions any government makes on funding, policy and priorities, affects the environment and our everyday lives. The Sussex Wildlife Trust asks that you please make sure that the candidates looking to obtain your vote know how much the environment means to you; go to their website for further information.
Also, in the video on this webpage, they speak about why the environment matters in the General Election, so ask the candidates what they will do to ensure the viability of our environment should they be successfully elected on the 8th of June 2017.
Furthermore, you still have a week to go to put yourself on the register to vote if you are not already on it, that is, until 22nd May 2017; go to the Government website to register, it only takes a few minutes.
Filsham Reedbed (in the photograph) is one of the largest reedbeds in Sussex, is a Sussex Wildlife Trust nature reserve, and I regularly walk there as it is just to the west of Hastings and always a lovely quiet site to visit. I am a member of the Sussex Wildlife Trust and, if like me you want to know more about the wildlife of Sussex, go to their website for membership details, and find out what the Trust is about!
