What a difference a day makes...

Okay, a few days longer than just the one day, but I go away for a short break and when I return to Hastings a number of things have changed, or more accurately, returned to 'normal.' For example, George Street is a thoroughfare again, having reopened after many months closed due to the fire back in January (blog).

Also, after many months, the exoskeleton that was scaffolding has been removed from Hastings RNLI Lifeboat Station, looking good!

Plus, months after being flooded in January (blog), HMV is open again! I do apologise to the people in this photograph, but I waited ages, and they saw my mobile pointed at the shopfront, but stayed around whilst I took this photograph, your choice folks!

And George Street from the west end... 😉

Hastings Lifeboat Volunteer Recruitment Event 25th March

I spotted this poster advertising the Hastings RNLI Volunteer Recruitment Event which is being held tomorrow (Saturday 25th of March), from 11.00 to 13.00 at the Lifeboat Station at The Stade TN34 3AR. They are looking for volunteers to join their Water Safety Team, Fundraisers, Visitor Centre Guides, and Lifeguards (facebook).

As ever, much respect. 👍

Hastings Bonfire, Pier, RNLI Stall & O.W.E.N.S

Apologies for the language, but this was the effigy destroyed yesterday evening, self-explanatory, and cheers to Rod for sending this photo to me - credit for this photo goes to @allybobble from twitter - many thanks to you, nice one! But no fireworks last night sadly, as the wind was too strong to enable their safe display, still, looking on the bright side, plenty of fireworks available for next year!

I had chatted to a few of HBBS members clearing up before wandering to the west and passing the very empty Hastings Pier, apparently not to open up for Christmas, sadly.

A wander through Bottle Alley to just below Warrior Square Gardens and on the lower promenade was, and is still I presume, a RNLI Lifeboat Stall. Had a good chat with the 2 volunteers, good luck to their endeavour!

Oh yes, and carrying on home, walking into Robertson Street, and O.W.E.N.S appears to be open, sort of, they're not great with the online explanations (website), but the notice (above) is in the window of what was Debenhams, and presumably shows the opening times until they open 'officially' on the 11th of November... Not sure if it meant yesterday or next Saturday, but be watchful in the town centre. Anyway, the website gives alternative opening times to the 12.00 noon opening times in the notice.

I have spoken to friends who have visited O.W.E.N.S, so go for it people!

Hastings Week 2022 has commenced!

Indeed, Hastings Week 2022 (8-16 October) has already began, and as most will be aware, it is always organised around Hastings Day (14th October), the date of the Battle of Hastings. The week kicked off this morning with the opening ceremony by Hastings Fishermen's Museum at 10.30am. Events can be seen at the website, including today and tomorrow the annual Jewellery Sale at Hastings RNLI Lifeboat Station (10.00am-3.00pm) and the Classic Car Show on the Stade opposite the Lifeboat Station (also 10.00am-3.00pm), plus there are many guided walks!

And there's a 'beer festival' on too, see blog!

Enjoy!

RNLI 2023 Diary and Greetings Cards, and a very tasty pasty!

On my way home yesterday I popped into the shop of the RNLI Lifeboat Station (website) as I do like to get one of their diaries every year, and I have missed a few years because of leaving it late! But not this year 👌 as I now have their 2023 pocket diary, and it only cost £4.50, decent price, and helping support the RNLI too, great stuff! Oh yes, and I bought 3 boxes of 8 Christmas Cards too, it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Also, I had had a few pints at lunchtime, so I was wee bit hungry as, except for a tangerine, I hadn't eaten anything since an early breakfast. So I stopped at the Albion Pasty Shack (facebook), open 10.30am to 4.00pm every day of the week, and of which I have written before (blog), because they do sell very tasty Traditional Cornish Pasties. Except my attention was caught by their spicy vegetarian pasty with kidney beans in it, and I wasn't let down, cost £3.80 and 'twas gorgeous... Sorry that I didn't take photographs of the kiosk open, or my pasty, I was too busy munching the pasty! 😉

I may just have another pasty soon, just to take a photograph, obviously! 😁
