New Kiosk, Seating et al...

I've given up waiting to post this image, the new kiosk just on the seafront, at the end of the America Ground, to the left, as you look at the photograph, is a new wooden staircase down to the beach, where tons of enormous (Norwegian, I have been advised) rocks are being shaped into 2 groynes! At the public presentation at the White Rock Hotel in June last year (link to relevant blog) I was told that this would be an 'information' kiosk, but artist designs around during the many months this was being constructed appeared to show food and beverages being sold, we'll see...

I had really wanted to wait until this seating, in front of the old baths/Source Park, was available to the public, but, what the heck...

Royalty comes to town.

Yesterday, the Duke of Gloucester came to town, and here, the Police and special types of security staff were on show (YES!), I kept trying to get photographs, but kept missing him! Rock-a-Nore Road was incredibly clean though, with the big hoover on wheels going up and down about 4 times, and Sara, the street cleaner doing similar about 5 times!

Anyway, he not only visited the Jerwood Gallery, but went up the East Hill in the lift and unveiled a plaque at The Source Park as an official opening. Thanks to Hastings Borough Council for this photograph; though I wish he'd stayed still long enough for me!

Bye bye Duke, from the West Hill!

From St Leonards to the America Ground - It's getting there!

A wander along the seafront, and a little research, finds that the work has started, at last, on refurbishing Bottle Alley, first mentioned on this blog a little over a year ago (page).

Blocked off at the Pier end for now!

At the Pier itself, some of the huts have been moved away from the front, and, way down there, restoration continues at the far end of the pier...

The external cladding of the Visitors Centre has been completed, and the glass balustrade on its roof appears to be completed. Opening in a couple of months or so! (website

Meanwhile, the first target of the White Rock Promenade rejuvenation (previous blog), The Source Park, has had a coat of paint or two added, ready for opening on Saturday next week on the 13th of February (website).

It is getting there, slowly but surely!

... and a reminder of what it looked like when a swimming baths!
