St George's Day, Art in the Park & This Weekend

I took this photograph (above) whilst walking through Alexandra Park yesterday morning, and thought it an appropriate time to mention this excellent use of the old bowling green and pavilion to provide help for mental health in Hastings through Art for Wellbeing (website). Hastings Borough Council advertised its new use as Art in the Park on its website in March, and photographs of last weekend's successful activities and fete can be seen at the Sussex Express website. Nice one!

William Shakespeare (1564-1616)

And Happy St George's Day! The day that William Shakespeare was coincidentally born on (at least his birth is celebrated on the 23rd of April... he was baptised on the 26th of April 1564), and died on, the 23rd of April 1616.

So, apart from the sharing of St George's Day cards aplenty, what else is happening this weekend? Well, music, beer and cheer are still available this weekend on Hastings Pier (see earlier blog), and the weather appears to be staying fine (Met Office), so that's nice. Other events can be found online (eg visit1066country), or just walk along the seafront, or in the parks, and enjoy your weekend, have fun!

Beer Festival at the Albion this weekend!

The Albion, 33 George Street TN24 3EA (and with an entrance on the seafront) is holding its annual St George's Beer Festival this weekend, continuing on to Monday (St George's Day). There is a selection of real ales from local breweries and from a bit further away.

The RX Shanty Men will be performing live this afternoon (Saturday) from 3pm, plus there will be live 'Jazz on Sunday' early tomorrow evening. Also tomorrow, there will be a 'traditional' Yard of Ale Drinking Competition (drinking 1.4L of beer from one very long and difficult to manage vessel!) at 4pm outside the seafront bar (top picture).

For St George's Day, Monday the 23rd of April, the Albion is introducing a 'traditional' Pie & Mash offer, a London Pub Pianist will be playing that evening, and the first 50 customers through the door at 6pm will receive pie and mash free! See facebook page.

St George's Day Festival of English Ale!

The Albion, in George Street, Hastings, is holding a Beer Festival this weekend, together with music, of course...

In addition to their regulars, Dark Star Hophead, Harveys Sussex Best and Timothy Taylor Landlord, you might just be able to imbibe up to 10 other ales from near and far!

From Sussex brewers, there will be Dark Star Sunburst (4.8%), Beachy Head Legless Rambler (5%), Rother Valley Chocolate Porter (4.2%), Harveys Armada Ale (4.5%), and their pertinent Georgian Dragon (4.7%); and from Kent, though the brewer himself comes from much closer to home, there will be Pig & Porter Red Spider Rye (4.8%) and Skylarking (4%), a session pale ale.

From further afield will be Adnams Mosaic Pale Ale (4.1%), from way up int' North, Manchester brewery Marble Pint (3.9%), and across from Cornwall, St Austell Spring Fever (4.1%).

Have fun, and Happy St George's Day to you!
