A damp Hastings Day & another mains water leak in South Terrace!

Okay, maybe not as damp as forecasters predicted, but the view over the Channel this morning, about 05.40 (above), despite the hint of a rainbow, looked a wee bit ominous... Thankfully, the dark clouds just ran from west to east above/along the English Channel, and didn't visit Hastings, indeed, only bringing a short shower at 06.00, and a few showers and tiny rumble of thunder later...

However, on my way home just now, dampness reared its head again, this time from below, just by the Priory Meadow goods entrance in South Terrace, where sprang a serious mains leak, as water pumped up through the surface, be warned!

This led to the road being closed for nearly 24 hours...

New Hotel Approved...

Further to my blog in November, Hastings Borough Council's Planning Committee yesterday approved the building of a new Premier Inn hotel on what is now the carpark at the corner of Cornwallis Street/South Terrace/Mann Street (Sussex World).

Let's hope this brings jobs to Hastings, which it should really!

Guess they found the leak in South Terrace

It appears they found the water mains leak they had been avidly seeking in South Terrace/St Andrews Square (many instances of a search have been witnessed over the last week!), it was opposite M&S all the time...

Water Leak!

OK, I've had a few days away, but noticed this leak when I got back, it's been leaking for at least 3 days now! This photograph was taken at the corner of South Terrace and Earl Street this morning, with a mixture of flowing water, standing water and ice... I have since found out (many thanks Rod!) that this has been leaking all week, also, that a leak in Stainsby Street in St Leonards has been flowing for several weeks!

No wonder our water rates are so high!
