The runner up is a photograph of a fox submitted by Anthony Thomsett, nice one!

Sussex Wildlife Trust News

Having now read the Sussex Wildlife Trust (website) magazine Wildlife Issue 186 Spring/Summer 2020 I realize the answer to my query, in a recent blog, why could I see the view above? It appears that, following receiving a grant from the charitable fund, Sussex Lund, a digger (hired presumably) was used to clear invading reeds to benefit flora and dragonflies, for example, many thanks to Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin. More can be found out at the Lund Trust and Sussex Lund website.

Oh yes, and I mentioned the photographic competition for the Sussex Wildlife Trust 2020 calendar in a blog last year, and the overall winner from the 12 finalists was this wonderful image taken by Maxine Dodds of a vole in a foxglove and called Pretty in Pink (and what a great film that was, oops, sorry, going off subject!).

My congratulations to Maxine, and to the other 11 finalists (website).

Wild About Sussex Photography Competition

Filsham Reedbed

Sussex Wildlife Trust are holding a photography competition with the 12 winning entries to be used for their printed and online 2020 calendars (website). Photographs of the wildlife and landscapes of Sussex should be submitted by the deadline of the 15th of September 2019, up to 3 images may be submitted, should be in landscape format, and at least 4 MB in size; go to the website for further details.

Filsham Reedbed (in the photograph) is one of the largest reedbeds in Sussex and is a Sussex Wildlife Trust nature reserve that I regularly walk to, it being a lovely quiet refuge just to the west of Hastings in the Combe Haven valley. I am a member of the Sussex Wildlife Trust and, should you want to find out more about the trust and/or join, please go to their website.
