Carnival Keeps On Keeping On!

This was the scene about 4.00pm yesterday (blog), and it got busier and busier, a great start for the Hastings Old Town Carnival Week (and a bit), and money raised for the RNLI and Hastings Lifeboat too, nice one! But Carnival continues today, including the Old Town Criers Competition from 7.30 on the steps of St Clements Church (register from 7.00pm), and Reggae on the Stade from 7.30 to 10.00pm (entry from 6.30pm) (more on website).

HOT Carnival Week & Hastings Reggae Festival, Busy, Busy, Busy!

An exciting 10 days coming up, including on Saturday the 29th of July, up at The Oval, Bohemia Road TN34 1EU, the Hastings Reggae Festival, with set times beginning at 12.00 noon with DJ Killa Kutz, and culminating with UB40 headlining from 20.30 to 22.00 hours. Not to forget that from Friday the 28th of July to Sunday the 6th of August is Hastings Old Town Carnival Week (website); I'd normally include an image of the lifeboat in the Carnival Parade, but the new lifeboat and its tractor are too long to go around the traffic island by Iceland, and so have not been featured for a few years now. Or, more likely, I would include a photograph from the Tug O' War, but, despite what is written in the paper copy of the programme, sadly, there will not be a Tug O' War again this year. Consequently, I am missing a few of my favourite photographs to include here, instead, I have used a photograph of the Nearly on the Beach Concert, taken by Rachel Rigsby, many thanks, and featured on the website.

There will be much ado about many things for 10 days, with the Old Town Criers' Competition on Friday the 28th, from 19.00 hours on the steps of St Clements Church, Swan Terrace, just off the High Street TN34 3ES (website).  Sessions of the Nearly on the Beach Concert will be held on both days over the weekend at the Stade Open Space, near Hastings Lifeboat Station, on Saturday from 13.00 to 20.00 hours, and on Sunday from 12.00 to 20.00 hours, when it will be preceded by breakfasts and reggae music with Reggae Brek from 10.00 to 12.00 noon (website). 

Of course there will be many other events, guided walks, films, fairs and markets, cream teas at St Clements Church, Services, and much more! Hastings Old Town Carnival 29/07 to 07/08/2022

Yes, the raising money for charity Hastings Old Town Carnival Week 2022 starts this weekend, from Friday the 29th of July to Sunday the 7th of August (website), with plenty to do for everyone. Last year there was no Pram Race, and this year the Tug-o-War has been cancelled, sadly.

Although the Old Town Criers Competition is being held on Friday (website), the equally demure tones of the Tug-o-War referee usually herald the beginning of Carnival Week, which no doubt will be held somewhere else next year. Consequently, I decided to show a photograph (above) of the Tug-o-War from a previous year, just to remind you what it's like, fingers crossed for its return next year! Maybe before? 😉 

Anyway, Carnival continues on Saturday with a significant number of events (website), notably Day 1 of the Nearly on the Beach Concert will be held on the Stade Open Space, where collections will be made in aid of Hastings RNLI Lifeboat Station, Pett Level Rescue and Hastings Sea Cadets. In addition, many other events this Saturday, including the HM Coastguard Open Day, Pop Up Makers Market, Craft Fayre, exhibitions and guided walks aplenty, and much more, indeed, never to forget the annual Guess the Weight of the Cheese Tower in Penbuckles window!

So, get ready to make donations whilst enjoying yourself, have fun!

 

Old Town Carnival Week 2018 Starts Today!

This sign is a sign of things to come, and very soon! The 2018 Old Town Carnival starts today (website), ostensibly with the Old Town Criers competition at Reeves Corner, 7pm for a 7.30pm start, but...

The official opening ceremony will be at the Fishermen's Museum in Rock-a-Nore Road at 12 noon tomorrow (Saturday 28th July), but personally I always think it really starts with the Tug o War, at 10.30am tomorrow (28th) in-between the Lifeboat Station and Sea Angling Club, but watch out for the railway too (website)!

Hastings Old Town Carnival Week...

Hastings Old Town Carnival Week starts this evening, and events cover 10 days in fact! This evening, registering at Reeves Corner, High Street, at 7pm for a 7.30pm start, will be the annual Old Town Criers Competition.
