Donut and Coffee Shops...

Right in the town centre/Harold Place, and yet another place to drink coffee sitting outside, but this time with doughnuts! On opposite corners we already had Jempson's (website), Costa Coffee (website), and Caffe Nero (website), and now we have Honeybee Donuts (website) at 1a Robertson Street!

Old toilets block to come too?

Town centre, cafes and charity shops, hmmm...

Town Centre Toilets...

This photograph was taken yesterday, and the toilets in Harold Place are certainly being demolished, no doubt about that, so the building now being used for anything else is out of the question... The Observer recently suggested that a restaurant could be sited here, is an idea, but how many restaurants and cafes are in the vicinity anyway?!? A friend suggested the old underground toilets could be reopened, but the Council wants to save money, not spend more... What about keeping it flat and using as car parking space so the Council can get an income from the space?

Just a thought, anyone else have ideas or knowledge, I haven't been to a Hastings Borough Council meeting or planning meeting for ages?!?

More grumpy news...

OK, well we knew that the Harold Place public toilets were closing down, following cut-backs thanks to central government reducing their grant to Hastings again, this year by over £2,000,000, and here's the evidence...

And, likely an affront to Southern Railway users, the railway company has nearly doubled the pay of their most senior director, Charles Horton, from £263,000 per annum to £478,000 plus a bonus of £17,000, presumably, as he's been doing such a good job (for the Government and its attack on the unions?). Oh well...

HBC sorts it out, a wee bit...

Well, the Council, or Kier, sorted out the mess here, for now, meanwhile, they listened to protests about the proposed closure of the public toilets in Ore, which has been reprieved, though they are still going ahead with the closure of the central town loos in Harold Place it would seem. Oh well, cuts have to happen somewhere, taking into account central government's unfair annual reduction in support to Hastings since 2010... 😒
