The Albany Taxi Charity & their 'Charges' Returned to Hastings Today!

Not so many taxis arrived in Hastings this year at lunchtime with their special 'fares' and support vehicles, indeed, this was their first visit since before the 2020 lockdown, the last being in 2019 on a much damper day (blog). But, to the history, when 40 years ago London cabbies got together to bring children with special needs to the seaside, the first event saw 72 children brought from Bermondsey to Margate. The Albany Taxi Charity's events have mushroomed since, coming to Hastings since 1992, and often more than 500 children have been brought at events since that first Margate visit; although this return with fewer taxis and children. If you wondered what all the honking of horns was about earlier on, and why many taxis were invading town, now you know!

The obvious cause of the three year break in this event was, of course, the Covid-19 Crisis, and, speaking to an organiser earlier today, they are trusting that next year the event will return to closer to normal in numbers. Anyhow, if you want to know more about the charity, either go to their website or to their facebook page.

Nice one folks, and welcome back again to Hastings!
