So, despite the RMT recommending that its members sign the new contracts offered to them by Southern, ensuring they are not laid off, as Southern threatened, the industrial action continues... this week, effectively, from midnight tonight to midnight on Thursday.
Why is it that, at first, the Government enforced contract changes on people, doctors, nurses et al, and now, Government-backed businesses are, effectively fighting the trades unions on behalf of the Government, such as Southern?
Contract (OED definition) "A written or spoken agreement, especially one concerning employment, sales, or tenancy, that is intended to be enforceable by law." - Now, to me, that means that both sides need to agree with any change, in law, yet workers aren't being given that protection under law now, just the employers!
If you or I broke a contract we would be subject to the Law...
