The
construction of the Visitor Centre on the pier is progressing well. The operation
to cast the concrete slab went to plan. Whilst the promenade was
closed, 165 tonnes of ready-mixed concrete was pumped from the road
to the Visitor Centre.
After
seven days the concrete was tested for strength to ensure it could
take the weight of the crane, and passed the test. The timber panels
for the building have since been delivered and are being erected as you
read (unless late at night!).
The
Bandstand Pavilion is ready for fitting as a
restaurant. The cast iron balustrade has been repaired and will be
reinstated. At the Pier Head the replacement of the trusses, deck
beams and bracing continues, progressing towards the end of
the Pier.
