Parking in Hastings and a Decent Traffic Warden

Someone I know was working at someone else's home in the High Street and parked in the car park off The Bourne, the ticket machine wasn't working, so he put a notice in his car window to say suchlike and returned every hour in case the machine was working again. Found a plastic covered PCN in his windscreen wiper and threw it to one side believing he had a ticket, later finding this note instead, he was dead impressed!

Nice one, but surely car park machines should advertise that if they can't take money, you need a smart phone to download an app from RingGo, but is that fair? Not everyone has a smart phone, hmmm...

Now it's 6 Steps to 'Freedom' - Though don't hold your breath...

Those 4 'steps to freedom' (from COVID-19 Crisis restrictions) announced by the Prime Minister back in February (blog) are stretching to at least 6 steps now, but don't hold your breath that things will return to normal from July the 19th (BBC), when Step 4/5/6 (indeed, I'm getting confused too!) is now supposed to come into effect; see the BBC for details of what we can do from Monday the 21st of June, but it's not really a lot different unless attending a wedding or funeral...

Stats for the incidence of COVID-19 cases in Hastings recently, according to the ONS are varying between 0 and 14 cases a week: for the week ending the 10th of June it was 11, which is less than a third of the national average, so not so bad (BBC).

Fingers crossed, we may get there... stay safe folks!

Crossing Hastings Country Park New Signs etc...

Yes, I'm still wandering backwards and forwards across Hastings Country Park when I have the time, which I do my best to ensure as much as possible, and new signs have appeared here and there, notably at the east and west ends, eg up at the top of the steps on the East Hill (above).

And I'm still 'spotting' birds this year too, Dunnocks and Stonechats aplenty over the east end of the Park, as well as the more regular Robins and Blackbirds singing away right across the Park, and Blue Tits and Great Tits too, not to forget the 2 Goldfinches I saw recently, and a Jay too (although that was in Alexandra Park 😉).

And a new sign has been erected at the east end of the Park, at last!

A closer look of the information provided, and close by is the...

... new Hastings Country Park Visitor Centre at Fairlight (HBC website), made of straw, and funded by the European Union, one of our final grants from them I'd imagine, and part of their UP STRAW programme (website). Apparently due to open at the end of this month, behind time, whatever, The Bale House should open this summer, a wee bit delayed because of, guess what, the COVID-19 Crisis...

I do love Hastings Country Park!
